The Briscoe Family, 2022
Hi. My name is Destiny Briscoe, and I’m running for re-election to the Pittsburg School Board. I am a wife, mother, attorney, and Pittsburg School Board Member in the Pittsburg Unified School District. I am also your neighbor. For over 20 years, I’ve worked to help students do better in school. As a Pittsburg School Board Member, I’ve used my legal skills to write board policies to improve education for students in our school district.
Pittsburg is such a precious gem. My husband and I love Pittsburg. We are rooted here. It is a place we are happy to call home, and we are committed to raising our children in this magnificent city. I am actively involved in the Pittsburg community. The Pittsburg Kiwanis is an organization that focuses on elevating the lives of children. As a member of that group, I founded a literacy subcommittee and partnered with community organizations to conduct lots of events for our children and families. These include read-alouds and book reading events for our children. We have provided backpacks filled with school supplies and free books to our children and families to enhance literacy. We’ve also provided scholarships to Pittsburg students to advance their educational endeavors.

I live by the motto that I must always reach back to help others succeed because I would not be where I am today without the support of my family and teachers. And I have done just that. While at community college, I mentored and tutored students. My goal was to help them learn the methods and principles to succeed. When I graduated from community college and went to UC Berkeley, I continued to mentor and tutor my peers. While at UC Berkeley, I helped bridge an educational program between a UC Berkeley student organization and Contra Costa County high school students in K-12 public schools. That program exposed the high school students to the college experience and higher education by attending UC Berkeley classes with their UC Berkeley mentors. In law school, I became a teacher’s assistant to help students develop the methods and study plans to succeed in law school. I have mentored students across Contra Costa County in K-12 public schools.

Let me tell you some of the things I’ve accomplished, as a Pittsburg School Board Member.
In my first term as your Pittsburg School Board member, I delivered real results. Some of my key achievements included the following: securing guaranteed college admission to California State University, East Bay for our graduating high school seniors; raising state standardized test scores across our district; using my skills as an attorney to create board policies that require our school district to guarantee career technical training skills (CTE), financial literacy skills, and essential life skills for every student.
I supported and approved early literacy instruction and initiatives in our pre-school and transitional kindergarten programs. Now our students are reading before kindergarten.
This progress, and more, was made possible because you trusted me with your vote in 2022. Thank you for your trust, your vote, and your continued support. I truly believe it is our duty to help our community members, children, and families because we are only as strong as our community.
